The back is made for movement
Your spine is a strong and adaptable structure designed to bend, twist, lift and carry. It does best when you keep it moving. For most longstanding back pain, extended rest delays recovery whilst staying active promotes a healthy spine. The discs in your spine sit between the bones of your back (vertebrae). They let your spine move, and they need that movement to stay healthy and nourished. Appropriate movement and activity also strengthens the muscles that support your back.

Pain is a signal to adjust, not to stop.
Try short walks, swimming, stretching and gentle strengthening to build resilience in your back. Start small, be patient and be consistent to build capacity over time. If in doubt, contact your physiotherapist for advice on what exercises would be appropriate for you.
Good Country Physiotherapy Naracoorte is currently rolling out a back specific exercise program, contact the clinic on 8762 1515 for further information on the GLA:D back program.
