Hydrotherapy treatment combines individualised exercises with the properties of immersion in warm water.
What is hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy (or Aquatic Physiotherapy) is the practice of physiotherapy in water. It is carried out by physiotherapists.
The aim of hydrotherapy is to assist in the rehabilitation of neurological, musculoskeletal or cardiopulmonary function of the individual patient.
Treatment can be one on one or in groups, where the physiotherapist is in the pool with a number of patients at the same time.
The benefits of hydrotherapy treatment are achieved by combining individualised exercises with the properties of immersion in warm water.
Movement is aided and resisted by the properties of buoyancy and drag in the water.
Good Country Physiotherapy offers a number of specific hydrotherapy classes, for both adults and children.
A one-on-one physiotherapy consultation with a physiotherapist is required before attending your first hydrotherapy session, to assess your suitability for the class and to identify what exercises would be of most benefit in the pool.
Hydrotherapy is suitable for most people and the exercises can be tailored to meet individual needs and ensure safety.
Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for:
Improving mobility and flexibility
Decreasing pain in arthritic joints
Strengthening your core (abdominals and back muscles)
Improving your balance
Early rehabilitation of knee and hip replacements
Encouraging early weight bearing following lower limb fracture and injury
Improving general fitness
Adult and paediatric classes available and individual hydrotherapy sessions are available on request.
The availability of the classes varies during the year, depending on pool opening times.
