Mental health is an important influencer on physical health and the overall health of an individual.
Suicide affects many rural people with no exception for farmers. Although not necessarily discussed due to stigma surrounding suicide, many farmers have been bereaved by suicide, attempted suicide, cared for someone who attempted suicide, have thoughts of suicide or been touched by suicide in some way or another. The video below shows some quotes from farmer who have experienced suicide.
So what is the Ripple Effect?
The Ripple Effect is an online intervention open to males between the age of 30-64 years old who have been affected by suicide in some way. Designed as a self paced intervention, The Ripple Effect, starts by finding out your lived experiences of suicide. From there, the program tailors your intervention to you and allows you to set personal goals and provides tailored resources. The length of the interventions depends on how much the participant engages with the average time being 90 minutes to complete.
The Ripple Effect appreciates that everyone has lived through an experience of suicide and tries to improve connectivity between farmers by being able to see anonymous experiences of others. As seen in the above video.
